We have to create an inspirational new and exciting 80s or 90s look that has never been seen before for a High End Couture Fashion Show.

I choose 80s because it’s fun and colour. i can have use a lot colour and try out new style which i haven’t tried before.

Assessment Work Shop Session:

Makeup

I was experimenting with coloured cut crease. First i tried orange but it wasn’t sharp enough and just blended with the gold flakes. Also the the Crease line wasn’t clean and precise.

I didn’t like how the orange one turn out so i experiment with different colours to find the suitable colour for my final look. the white was shape but it felt like something was missing. i like the purple because it has the contras and i was told to sharpen by underlining it with dark colour to bring the colour out more.

Hair

I came a cross a hair style called honeycomb braid in the internet. it was something i never seen before so i tested it out with my own twist. i like the pattern it gave my hair style some character. Even thought it was time consuming i wanted to do for my assessment.

Evaluation:

After the work shop i was sure what do for my final assessment. And my tutor gave me a lot great advice for further improvement. which gave me great help for my assessment.

Demonstration :

Rick Racking

-First, Brush out all tangle from the hair and section it.

-Take a small section and apply some mousse or hair spray for hold. ( smaller the section more define it gets)

-Grab a strong pin and place it close to the root. then create a figure 8 by going over and under the pin until they are unable to wrap.

-Next, use a flat iron to heat it for a couple seconds. let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes or till its completely cool.

-Remove the hair out of the pin and separate the hair piece by piece for more define look or brush it through for a fizzy and fluffy loo.

-Finish it off with some hair spray

Braiding

-Brush out the tangles from the hair

-Take a small section and start braiding the hair

-Use a flat iron for a couple seconds then let it cool for 10 to 15 or till it’s completely cool.

– Undo the braids and finish it with some hair spray.

Evaluation:

Today, we learned rick racking which is ideal crimping method for short hair. we were told to create a hair style that involve two heat appliances. i tried to practise my hair style for my assessment. i involve hot sticks and rick racking for my hair style. i think the rick racking gave more texture and body to my whole look. I also create some pattern using the hair elastics on right side. i was pleased with how it turn out but my only concern was time. i need to practise more.

Application :

-I started off with a hydrating moisturiser

-Mix liquid foundation with Mac Strobe Cream or can use any brand of strobing cream you prefer. apply the mixture on the face and some on the neck, it helps to make the skin glistening and dewy.

-Contour the underneath the cheekbone using liquid contour.

-Follow up lightly powdering the whole face. remember we want dewy skin, just slight seep will do.

-Use a clear brow gel to feather out the eyebrow then fill in the gaps with an eyebrow pencil in thin strokes. Choose a colour that is close to the natural hair.

-Apply cream rose gold colour shadow on the lid. Avoid using powder shadow, colour tends to move around and crease a lot. top it off with some eye gloss over the top and blend. Add some mascara on the lash

-Next, line the lip with a lip liner in nude pink then apply lip gloss

– use a coral cream blush lightly on the cheek and blend it well with a sponge

-highlight on the highest point of the face cheekbone, nose bridge, forehead, chin and brow bone using the same Mac Strobe cream.

Evaluation:

Each one of us had to draw out a theme for the couture makeup look. we were told to be creative and try out something new.  I got a glossy look which I was happy with. I tried to create a dewy skin and glossy lid and lip which i was inspired by high fashion magazine cover. i was satisfied with the final look however the lids started greasing i should have applied the gloss at last minute. i will marked that for future use.

Creating Curls/ Waves using Tongs, Hot sticks and Straighteners

Equipment and Products:

• Gown
• Sectioning clips
• Styling spray
• Tail comb
• Curling iron

Creating finger waves:

– Section the hair back and front. take a small section, spray some styling spray and comb it through from good distribution.

-Place the curling iron upside down, the clip part it should be underneath.

-Slide the iron in the hair, clamp it down, move the hair to one side (Towards you), roll up the iron and smooth the hair using the tail comb. remove your iron out after it’s heated. Next simply repeat the step but going another direction. place back the iron where we left, clamp it, now move the hair to another direction (Away from you), roll up and smooth with comb. repeat that.

-For the ends, just simply curl them like usual.

-Finish it off with some hair spray for hold.

Evaluation:

For todays lesson we had to use two electrical appliances to create a hair look. first i try to make 1920s inspired red carpet look but it end up looking fizzy and weird. Therefore, i just decided to braid the front part and curl the rest and used the gold grips to accessorised it and gave it some character.

Application:

-First prep the lip with a nice lip scrub by doing so it helps to remove to dead cells and smooth it out.

-Next, moisturise the lip with a lip balm or vaseline

-Then use a lip pencil to round it out just to even out the shape of the lip. Outline the lip to create a fuller lip and smooth it out with a lip brush in a light-handed motion. Then use lipstick to fill out the rest. it is preferred to choose a lipstick colour that matches the lip pencil.

-After applying the lipstick, powder it down with a translucent powder for long wear and matte finish then blot it with blotting paper or a tissue.

-For the small top lip, highlight the top to create a lift.

-To block out the lip, apply concealer around the outside corner of the lips. With the nude lip liner fill in in the center part of the lip the follow it up with lipstick.

Evaluation:

Today, we were told to correct to lip shape and try something new on the eye. we worked in three so i only had half of the face to work with. on the eye lids i went for something bright and colourful. however, it didn’t turn out well and the pink didn’t match the my models skin tone. For the lid, me and my classmate decide to go for same lip colour so that our tutor can grade it easily even thought it didn’t match my eye makeup. Although, my final look didn’t turn out nice but i got complement on the application of the eyeliner. my tutor said it was nicely drawn sharp and nice.

Demonstration:

-Brush out the tangles from the hair using the wide comb. it’s optional to use any heat protection product. if applied so, don’t go too close to the roots.

-Section the hair, start it from to bottom and work your way up.

– Take your round brush depending on how much movement. the smaller size of the brush will give you more waves and help to lift the roots

-Place the round brush underneath the hair, bring your blow dryer and work down at the base first. keep your hair in a 90-degree angle for a lift in the roots

-Rap the hair around the round brush make sure the ends are tucked in and heat it all the ways till we get the base. you can just leave the brush here for 10-15 minutes till the brush cools down. Or you could take the brush out, pin curl and clip the hair using sectioning grips till it sets. Repeat the on the whole head

-Until it cools, remove the grips and style it.

– Finish it off with setting cream or spray for hold and long wear.

Evaluation:

Today, it was a interesting lesson and i enjoyed it a lot. Even thought i was slower than my classmate because i’m still a beginner in hair but i took my time and try to perfect the technic on my own pace. the final look turn out nicer than i expected and i was quite pleased with the final look.

Makeup Application:

-foundation all around the face and neck area. Conceal the area need to be done. buff the area to make it natural.

-If using Glitter, advice to do the eye makeup first.

-Apply eye primer for longevity, use a nude base shadow or a face powder on the lids by doing so it will help to make it easier to blend the shadows together.

-Always ensure to powder the lids down when using the cream shadow because it tends to crease.

-Next eyebrows, use the colour that matches the natural brow colours, fill them in thin stroke line and make a nice arch shape. use a spoolie brush to soften it and to comb the brow into the place.

-Apply eyeliner following the natural lash line as close as possible when going for the ends try to wing it upwards.

-Curl the lashes, follow up with the mascara and use the clean spoolie to comb and separate the lashes from adhering together.

-squeeze out some lash on to the mixing tray. use tweezer to remove the lashes from packaging, dip the adhesive side into the glue and attach it one by one near the lash line.

Evaluation:

So this week we learn about correcting eye shape and application of the lashes. i create a light smoky makeup which is a bad idea for eye shape like my model. which made her eye look more sink in, i should have apply light shadow on her lids to bring out her eye shape. For the lashes, i don’t think my model need false lashes because she have naturally very beautiful long and thick lashes. Even so, i tried it out. I personally think i did a great job on applying lashes. it was close to the lashes line and looked natural.

Hi, welcome back this week we taught shampooing & conditioning and straight blow drying techniques.

Products & Tools Used:
-Gown
-Towel
-Shampooing & Conditioning

-Heat Protection Spray/ Lotion ( optional )

Techniques:
– I help my model to wear the gown and wrap the towel behind her neck in order to protect and prevent her clothes from getting it wet.

– Ensure your Client/Model is comfortable, then start by checking the water temperature by testing it on your palm. The water has to be warm to touch. Wet the top crown of the head, after few seconds, ask them if the water temperature is okay. if said no, adjust to their liking.

-Choose the right Shampoo that is suitable for your client’s/model’s hair types and requirements. Gently apply the shampoo in a circular motion on the hair. Make sure to shampoo it twice, the first shampooing doesn’t clean up the hair product that the client/model used. while rinsing, careful not the wet your client’s face.

-Apply conditioner from mid-lengths to the ends of the hair. feel free to give them some head massage. However, if the client’s/model’s have greasy hair type you may have to avoid massage. Really make sure to rinse it well. Wrap the head with a towel to prevent water dripping all over the place.

-Use a wide comb to comb out all the tangles which will make it easy to work with for the following step. Session the hair from ear to ear and pin them using grips.

-How you position your hair is very important for a straight blow-dry.

-Start with taking out small session about 2 inches from the back hair. Next, blow-dry the hair pushing the cuticle downward which will help to achieve straight and sleek hair. It is ideal to use a large round brush or a paddle brush. When the hair is almost dry, put your blush on top and place your thumb on the blush while gripping the hair and blow-dry it in an angle position. By doing this, it will create a smooth and straight hair. Repeat these steps for the whole hair.

– Finish it off with some hair serum to give it more shine.

Evaluation:

Today for this lesson, we had to work in 3. I was confident with the shampooing the hair because i have done it before. however, it was my first time doing straight blow-out therefore had hard time controlling the blowdryer and the brush together. My classmates were very helpful they gave some tips and treats on handling the brush and blowdryer.

Application of Corrective Makeup:

-I started off gowning my model to prevent her clothes from staining.

-I used the cleanser to get rid of any makeup and oils off the skin. Soaked the cotton pad with the toner then wipe the entire face to remove the leftover product or makeup then follow it up with the moisturizer. If the model has a dry skin insure to moisturizer them well because it might show up patchy and flakey

-Primer, apply them all over the face to prep the skin for the following step.

-Choose a foundation that matches and even out the model’s skin tone. Don’t be afraid to mix and match the foundation to get the right color. Use foundation brush or sponge to apply them starting from the center of the face then blend it outwards to give out a seamless finish. Ensure to blend it evenly on temples, hairline and as well as neck.

-Apply the eye base/primer on the eyelids to prevent makeup from coming off. it also helps to stay intact for a long period of time.

-Correctives for spots and blemishes, apply the concealer which matches the skin tone or a bit lighter on the center of it then blend it around the edge with a small brush. Put orange shade corrector on the dark area like under the eye to balance it out. Try to apply it to a V shape and blend it. Cover it up with a concealer. Lastly, buff some powder on the eye area to set and prevent from creasing.

– Contouring and highlighting, go two shade darker for contour and same goes for the highlight, however, two shade lighter. Under the cheekbone, chin, corner of the nose and hairline those are the areas need to be contoured. For highlights on the apples of the cheekbone, brow bone, cupid’s bow, along with the nose and maybe chins area as well. Make sure to blend them really well. Remember the part you contour will be pushed back and the part you highlight will come forwards.

Face Shape:

Each an every people have a different variety of face shapes. Different face required different correction. Often hairstyles can disguise the face shape. It’s good to examine your client’s/model’s face shape and sizes of the facial bone structure before applying makeup.

Oblong
has an elongated face structure.
-Highlight: Just apple of the cheeks. Avoid applying on the chin area which will make the face shape appear more longer.
-Contour: On hairline on top of the forehead and the chin areas which will help to create smaller face shape.

Square
has a broad angled jawline and forehead.
-Highlight: Just a bit on the forehead and the chin
-Contour: Side corner of the forehead and jawline it will create the desired oval face

Round
has a short and round shape.
-Highlight: Just a bit on the forehead and the chin
-Contour: Apply over in an angle from jaw to temples

Diamond
has wide cheekbones, narrow chin, and narrow forehead.
-Highlight: the Narrow side of the temples
-Contour: Tip of the chin area and just a little to define the shape

Heart
has a wide forehead and pointed chin
-Highlight: Just a bit on the forehead and cheekbone
-Countour: The chin, the temples and the side corner of the forehead

Oval
It is a perfect and most desired face shape
-Highlight: Forehead, cheekbones, and chin just to define it a bit more
-Contour: Underneath the cheekbones just to define it a bit more

Evaluation:

I think I did okay with this look. I was happy with the selection of the foundation color which matched wonderfully with my model skin tone. the application and blending foundation was nice however I should have concealed the spots better and then powder it down with face powder so my model skin won’t look greasy. For contouring, I could have gone heavier around the forehead, jawline and cheekbone area. Put some shading along the corner of the nose. So far the shading on the cheekbone on the right place.

Hi, welcome to my blog. It was the first week of the lesson, therefore, I have not much to share about. Our tutor gave out the project we will be doing in the future and taught about Health & Safety.

Health & Safety:

–Make sure your work counter is clean and lay over a tissue paper before setting up your counter with products and always you use clean makeup brushes. To avoid any contamination, the disposable mascara wand is advice to use. Use a hot and wet cotton pad to wipe down the first layer of it to clean lipstick, lipliner, and eyeliner. For eyeshadow and powder blushes, sanitize them by spraying on alcohol. Scissors, tweezers and other metal tools should be disinfected with IPA.

-Most important part, wash hands thoroughly with soap or use hand sanitizer before and after handling client’s/model’s face or hair.

-Remember to ask your model/client if they have any sensitivities, allergies, skin reactions, communicable diseases, etc. Patch tests are required before applying any products to their skin.

-Best to use a spatula to remove makeup from the compact. Don’t dip your brush directly on the makeup brushes for hygiene purposes.

-Have extreme cation on handling electrical equipment. they should be PAT tested each year to ensure it’s safe to use. The electrical appliance must not be near water or covered when in use. Never leave them on or beside flammable items.

-If substances like spirit gum, IPA, Acetone, Glatzan, etc, are being used I would highly suggest working in a nice ventilated area. When using these items ensure to label them to occur any accident happening. These substances should never be disposed of in the sink or in a general bin.
